Movement Disorders
Northwestern University offers a one or two-year Fellowship in Movement Disorders.
The first year of training provides extensive clinical experience in all aspects
of movement disorders, including recognition, diagnosis and management of various
movement disorders, administration of botulinum toxin injections for the treatment
of movement disorders, and surgical management of patients undergoing deep
brain stimulation, from selection of appropriate surgical candidates to post
operative programming. This training will involve attendance in outpatient
clinics, participation in the inpatient consult service, participation in ongoing
clinical trials, didactic sessions, and weekly/monthly conferences. For
trainees who choose the two year program, the fellow will have the opportunity
to receive training in clinical trials methodology through formal coursework
and to work towards a master’s degree in public health or clinical epidemiology.
There are excellent opportunities for research and collaboration in basic as
well as clinical science, with many disciplines across the university, and
the fellows are encouraged to purse a research project. The fellowship is structured
to insure that fellows will gain experience and training to prepare them for
competitive research career.
