Neuro-ophthalmology
Neuro-ophthalmology is a subspecialty of Neurology
and Ophthalmology. It is a discipline that deals with Neurological disorders
that affect the eye causing such symptoms as loss of vision, double vision,
eye pain, as well as disturbances of higher visual functions ,such as
difficulty understanding the reading material, orientation to surrounding
space, recognition of familiar objects and faces. Neuro-Ophthalmology
also deals with diagnosis and treatment of various disorders of the optic
nerve and nerves and muscles that control the eye and lid movements.
Division
of Neuro-ophthalmology provides both outpatient and inpatient consultative
service , particularly to Neurology, Neurosurgery and Ophthalmology,helping
them in localization of disease process,assessing severity and prognosis
and offers various treatment options.. Patients are seen in Ophthalmology clinic
,where comprensive eye examination is conducted with the aid of ancillary
services that include formal visual field examination,optic nerve and retinal
photography and angiography, optical coherence topography and ultrasonography.
