NeuroCritical Care

Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine offers a two-year fellowship in Neurocritical Care.  Applicants must have completed an approved residency training program in neurology, neurological surgery, internal medicine, anesthesiology, general surgery, or emergency medicine at the time the fellowship commences.

This fellowship follows the guidelines and requirements set out by the United Council of Neurological Specialties for board eligibility in Neurocritical Care.   In addition to time spent in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit, fellows will complete rotations in medical, surgical, trauma, cardiac, and pediatric intensive care units.   Fellows will gain proficiency in critical care procedures and monitoring, including central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, bronchoscopy, endotracheal intubation, and ventilator and ventriculostomy management.  Fellows will gain expertise in neuroradiology and neurosonology.  The pursuit of elective rotations and independent academic research is strongly encouraged.  Fellows will also participate in a comprehensive curriculum which includes lectures and teaching conferences.  Mentoring of fellows by the faculty is an integral part of the program.

Located in the heart of Chicago, Northwestern’s downtown campus is surrounded by a variety of upscale recreational, dining, and housing opportunities.
