| Biography |
Dr. Ramadevi Gourineni completed her medical school at Kurnool Medical College in Andhra Pradesh, India. She was raised in the United States prior to this. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at St Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois and her residency in Neurology at University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her first fellowship in Sleep and EEG at Loyola University in Maywood, Illinois and her second fellowship in Sleep Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois under Dr. Phyllis Zee. She joined as a faculty member in the Department of Neurology in September 2001.
Dr. Gourineni’s clinical activities include seeing patients with a variety of sleep disorders in the neurology outpatient clinic and reading sleep studies. She has a special interest in behavioral treatment of insomnia and currently is involved in research studying the effects of meditation on stress and sleep in individuals with chronic insomnia. She is also a principal investigator or co- investigator on multiple clinical trials on insomnia and restless legs syndrome.
In addition to her clinical and research activities, Dr. Gourineni is also the director of Neurology Medical Student Education. In this role she is the director of the Scientific Basis of Medicine course, neurology section for second year medical students, the faculty advisor for SIGN (Student Interest Group in Neurology) and the Clerkship Director for Neurology for third year medical students and fourth year students doing senior elective rotations. |
