Neurocritical Care Education

In addition to providing the highest quality of care for our patients, our faculty are also devoted to training the next generation of clinicians, scientists and educators. All our patients are part of the teaching experience for students, residents and fellows in training. In-patient rounds are conducted in a didactic fashion by attendings who blend education with patient care. Our educational programs are specifically tailored to provide students, residents and fellows the best opportunity for mastering their neurological and general medical skills at each level of training, while developing into able educators and innovative scientists.

Medical Students

Medical students of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine have opportunities to rotate in the Neuro-ICU as part of their core rotations or during sub-internship electives for more advanced students. During these rotations, their patient care duties are augmented by student-level didactics.

Residents

For Neurology residents of McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, there are dedicated rotations in the Neuro-ICU across our three-year training program. In addition to resident-level didactics during these rotations, our faculty offer several resident-level teaching conferences focused on neurocritical topics every year. Our residents frequently participate in faculty research and also develop their own research projects during their residency.

Fellows

Our division supports five Neurocritical Care fellowship positions, all administered through McGaw. The fellowship is certified by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS) and transitioning to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
