Sleep Medicine Education

With our relationship to Northwestern Medicine Sleep Disorders Center, one of the top five academic sleep centers in the nation, the Division of Sleep Medicine provides students an unparalleled experience with a focus on interdisciplinary treatment of patients, research and teaching. Educational opportunities include an ACGME-accredited clinical fellowship, residency electives and away rotations for individuals from other institutions. The clinical sleep medicine fellowship includes a rotation at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, weekly clinical lectures and a monthly journal club to complement the array of learning opportunities available.

The Center for Circadian and Sleep Medicine provides students of all levels unique opportunities to engage in basic, translational and clinical research, including a doctoral program is offered in conjunction with the Northwestern University Institute for Neuroscience PhD program. Participation in a weekly research meeting as well as the chance to present findings at national conferences and assist in writing journal articles are just a few of the additional educational opportunities the program offers. The division is dedicated to the development of basic and clinical investigators, and the breadth of the interdisciplinary school-wide collaborations brings unique opportunities for innovation in clinical care, research and training of the students, residents and fellows. Research training is supported by several NIH-funded career development awards for junior faculty and a T32 grant in sleep research.
